Selective Functional Movement Assessment

“The SFMA is the movement based diagnostic system, designed to clinically assess 7 fundamental movement patterns in those with known musculoskeletal pain.”functionalmovement.com

This assessment allows you and the assessor to determine if there are any deficits in mobility or stability, which can impact the way you move and feel.

Mobility

While not all muscles and joints need an increase in mobility, the ones that are stiff or tight, must move better. If you’re strengthening something that’s already tight, you could be compromising good nutrition to your muscles and joints, which can lead to conditions like arthritis in the future.

Stability

This is where specific strengthening comes into play. A lot of times we forget about the small stabilizing muscles, and only focus on the big “flashy” muscles. Stability is important because it lets you control your mobility! Neglecting stability can lead to injury in the future.
